MAAC Player of the Week ALEX FRANKLIN, SIENA Senior, Forward, 6-5, 226, Reading, Pa./Central Catholic
Franklin, a senior forward, scored 23 points and grabbed seven rebounds to lead Siena past Iona, 88-68, in a matchup of the league's top two teams. He made 7-9 field goals (.778) and 9-12 free throws (.750) in 32 minutes of action. Franklin also contributed two assists and a blocked shot to help Siena stay perfect in MAAC play. He is the only player in the league ranked in the top five in scoring, rebounding and field goal percentage.
Congratulations to Alex - well deserved.

No offense to Alex, but I think Ryan Rossiter should be the player of the year.Ryan has been more consistent than probably any player in the MAAC. He doesn't have huge scoring games, but he has scored in double figures 18 of 25 games. He leads the team in rebounding, Fg %, and FT %. Among conference leaders in rebounding, shot blocking, steals. He just does it all.

Just as long as it's a Saint, I'm fine with it. I think Ryan will be the favorite next year. Ryan has been consistent all year, but Alex at times has carried this team on his back.

Is it just me, or are point guards undervalued in this game? Moore have been voted as one of the 11 best point guards IN THE COUNTRY, yet doesn't get any love when it comes to being the best player in the MAAC.

A guy that is shooting 30% from the floor for the season isn't the player of the year, though as he drives the engine he certainly could be the MVP. Ubiles isn't getting the respect he deserves, he's scoring nearly 20 points per game in MAAC player, is the team's best defender and the "go to" guy at crunch time. Plus, a little something for papi, he is leading the league in 3 point shooting % in MAAC play. Personally, I believe Ubiles, Franklin and Rossiter all deserve consideration and would not be offended if anyone of them got the award. Further, all 3 plus Moore deserve 1st team consideration. Jackson should be 2nd or 3rd team.

Maybe when he is a junior or senior, but not next year when the MAAC has Rossiter, Pickett, Jenkins and Machado returning as upperclassman. Plus Nero may be back next season which may detract from his point scoring output.

Pickett is on a bad team he will not be picked for preseason POY. Jenkins and Machado probably not but will be on the first team. Either way there's your likely first team though CJ could bump Pickett off.

I'm with Gas, not next year, maybe the year after or his senior year. Coach will give him his love next year, but more of a long-term proven player.

I remember when MTS suggested Ryan could be POY by his senior year when he was a freshman and everyone laughed at him.
