Kennyts 41 wrote:Yes Calvin Newell is from Evelyn Mack academy, to me I thin k he looks like a good one. Don't Yard and Newell have a history. They played against each other last game of the season last year when he was on Strath Haven. That's the game Yard walked off the court without shaking hands I believe. Could be some bad blood there.

Well they seem like pretty typical highlight reels of kids dunking. However, there did seem to be a lot to like. Both seem to already have the body to handle D1, both can get into the lane and finish or make a nifty like pass and both can at least occassionally make a jump shot. ;-)

Apparently Siena has been on Bryon Allen for a couple of months. I found a piece from early December where he indicated that Oregon and Siena are two new schools among others showing interest since the National Prep Showcase in November. http://w3.nbebasketball.com/2009/12/06/nbe-prep-corner-with-pat-stevens-vol-3-1/Scroll down to the In this Corner section for the reference.

I like Allen from what I have read and seen. Newell's video is impressive, but strikes me as a me-first/high maintenance type.
Hopefully Allen's coach can point to Ubiles - another guy with high-major offers - that went to Siena and started from Day 1 and had a great career.

this is the kind of kid you get that can really propel you.... a serious UP recruit, hand him the keys for 4 years. If Siena gets a toe-hold on 4-star, 90 graded kids, well, scary what they could do....

Allen sounds great but I'm afraid he may be a bit of a reach for Siena. I bet he winds up with a BCS school.

The staff wouldn't be wasting their time on him if they thought he wasn't a good match and seriously interested in Siena. He may wind up at a BCS but one thing is certain Fran & Co. have proven the list of BCS schools Siena can't recruit against is getting smaller and smaller every year....

If Denzel Yard leaves Siena then maybe we can get 2 of the recruits. By the way its sounding for Yard. I wouldn't be surprised that Siena nabs a SG guard and a Point guard in this class. Yard is not doing well in school and may be ask to leave if things dont improve. The recruiting class would then be called the 4 horsemen :d/

I'm sure they think he's a great fit and that he is willing to listen to them about playing at Siena. That alone makes a player of his talent worth pursuing even if it is an outside shot. He just sounds like the sort of player that will take the opportunity to go to the Big East or ACC. In the case of Basabe we at least knew for a while that we were in his top three choices. With Allen I haven't really seen anything to indicate we are any higher than in his top 15.

MVP, what makes you think Siena would go after a SG? Even if Yard were gone, they still have Jackson, Downey, Griffin, and Burdine there next year and only Breeden at PG. If Yard is gone, you need 2 PG's.

Griffin a Jr. At this point Griffin and Downey seem great coming off the bench and would PROBABLY be better suited in that role.

If Yard goes, which is a distinct possiblity, we'd have 2 'ships. We NEED a STARTING PG, with Breeden backing him up. The other should be a combo with some size (at least 6'2"), that can help at the point and be ready to play 20 min a game at the 2G in '11.

Allen was at DeMatha for his freshman and sophomore years.
He spent his junior year at Oak Hill and is now at St. Thomas More for his senior year.

Fran was quoted as saying Burdine can play 1, 2, and 3. If you look at the roster, you have: C-Rossiter, Walters PF-Basabe, Martens, Preistly SF-Anosike, Wignot, (Burdine) SG-Jackson, Downey, Griffin, (Burdine) PG-Breeden,(Burdine) And the following year you have Poole coming in as a SG. I'd look for 2 PG's before any SG's.

Now in a perfect world the absolute cold blooded sniper would be a big 3!
