By that I mean this: while watching the game (in about a 4x4 window on my laptop) I could tell that Mel was having a good game and that the competition he was facing was pretty strong. I have admit though (here comes the Edwin comparision) that even though it was clear he can play and was having a good game, I never would have thought that he had 25 & 12. 14 & 8 - sure no problem. But, if there is such a thing ... that was about as quiet a 25 & 12 as someone can get just like Edwin sometimes does... Well a couple of the dunks weren't so quiet ;-) but at least I didn't realize he was having such a great game against high major competition. Looking forward to seeing Mel in G&G for the next 4 years!

Especially the part where I could tell he was going up against a good front court, but I still don't know exactly how good.

Especially the part where I could tell he was going up against a good front court, but I still don't know exactly how good. QEA frontcourt consists of #32 Juvonte Reddick, a 6'9" senior, mid major plus kid. Been getting good reviews from Telep and may have the big boys sniffing around because of his size, athletic ability and motor. #35 Quincy Miller - 6'8" Top 10 player in the junior class. Not much more needs to be said. #33 Dominque Pointer 6'7" junior. Very good athlete, not super skilled. Probably a low mid major kid. #24 Aaron Bowen 6'5" Senior. Came off the bench and is committed to Marquette. Thin but can really shoot and is also a high level athlete. So between the 2 teams we probably had 6 high major guys on the floor. Mel was the second leading scorer and rebounder. I follow recruiting fairly closely so I knew a good deal about them before we played.

As always, thanks for the info and insight TM. Was Mel matched up against any one of those guys specifically?

Mel had 24 and big rebound totals in a win over Worcester Academy tonight. Again for prespective Worcester has a very athletic 6'8" kid and a 6'11" low major kid. Will have details later.

Looks like Burdine had 19 pts in a 70-53 win

Mel,
What did you think of the Ackerman kid at Worcester? He is the 6-11 kid.

BSG I am guessing you mean in terms of Siena. As of right now don't think he is good enough. I actually wasn't at the game but have seen him probably 10 times. Our inside guys got him in foul trouble. Obviously he didn't do much to prevent Mel from scoring or rebounding, nor our other bigs. However definitely need to keep a eye on him. He is legit 6'11" and a very hard worker. Runs ok and has good hands. Has really improved over the last 12 months. At this point I would say he is a low major, BU, Holy Cross, UNH, should all be recruiting him hard. Could he get to Siena's level, absolutely but he needs to show that. Hard to get his size at the mid major level. We play another 6'11" kid today who Siena should be monitoring.

Keep it up Basabe. Franklin's will be ENORMOUS shoes to fill. He's really playing like a POY candidate.
Hey TM, several weeks back you posted about Basabe going up against Majok Majok. Mr. Majok is now listed on "recruit recon" as having interest by Siena. What can you tell us about him?

Is his name really Majok Majok? I don't think I can handle a guy with two same names.

Besides the fun of having two same names, we don't need anymore front court guys in this class. That would be overkill. I think, we do need a guard though.

From Phil at Hoopville:
In prep school action, St. Mark’s knocked off Worcester Academy 67-55 on Friday in a rematch of a game Worcester won a year ago. The Lions responded to every rally by the Hilltoppers and look to be playing better basketball, although it’s worth noting that they have played a very tough schedule to date. Siena signee Melsahn Basabe (6′7″ Sr. SF-PF, Glen Cove (NY)) continues to have a solid senior season, scoring a game-high 24 points to lead the Lions, while Alex Murphy (6′9″ So. SF, Wakefield (RI)) had 15. Christophe Varidel (6′1″ Sr. SG, Geneva (Switzerland)) led Worcester Academy with 16 points and showcased his excellent shooting stroke.
