Here's a hint: it's not Edwin Ubiles or Ronald Moore.

13-0 in conference play and Siena (barring a February run by Niagara or a similar run from Iona) has the look of the MAAC's representative in the NCAA tournament. Mention Siena and one normally nods and says, "Ah ... White Magic, Edwin Ubiles and Ronald Moore." However, Iona coach Kevin Willard thinks you need to broaden your horizons.

Following the Saints' win over Iona last week, Willard said that senior Alex Franklin is the best player in the MAAC. "This is a team loaded with very good basketball players, but he's [Franklin] the best in the conference by far ... He plays extremely hard, he's unselfish, he gives up his body. I don't know how you could vote for anybody else for player of the Year," said Willard.

The numbers back up Willard's claim: Franklin is averaging a team-best 16.4 ppg and is second on the team to Ryan Rossiter in FG percentage (58.6 percent) and rebounds (8.0).

If Franklin and the Saints want to make another miracle run in March, though, this year could be their final hurrah for at least one or two seasons. Franklin, Ubiles and Moore are all seniors and despite the presence of Rossiter and Clarence Jackson, the production drop-off is steep.
